Discover the Secrets of Hairline Restoration

scalp micropigmentation jagged hairline, simon symeou smp, hairline restoration

As life goes on, it is quite likely for men and women to see hairline changes and inevitably for most, a receding hairline. A condition called androgenetic alopecia affects millions of people not just in London but worldwide, and the inability to retain hair follicles and hair growth will be evident.

In men particularly, there is a condition called male pattern baldness (for females a similar condition called female pattern baldness). This is usually where the frontal hairline recedes, and hair loss continues in identifiable stages.

Pattern baldness effects on women, causes hair thinning either across the entire scalp, or in sections of it. Similar to men the hairline can recede but in a minor way in comparison. Hair loss and the timing of it, and how differently it affects men and women, illustrates just how difficult hair loss is to work out even for the best hair and scalp scientists in the world.

Here we discover the why, the where and the how, of hair restoration. Establish what can help you to restore your hairline (surgical methods, non-surgical treatments, and other more natural methods).

Also we look at the cost of hair restoration, as well as another non-surgical method called scalp micropigmentation (also known as a hair tattoo and SMP).

SMP for hairline restoration involves the application of very small precise dots onto the scalp – tattooed on the scalp. This mimics the appearance of realistic 3D hair follicles. These micro dots are created by a scalp micropigmentation technician after taking into consideration, the previous hair style and the previous pattern of hair growth.

So, SMP works if you prefer shorter hair or a shaved look (buzz cut look), or if you prefer longer hair with extra volume and density.

If losing your hair is because of family genetics and if you have relatives who have gone through baldness early in life especially, then there is a strong chance you will too.

Even environmental factors can be a major cause. If you’re aged over 50 and you’re male, you will be especially vulnerable to developing a receding hairline.

Are you proactive when it comes to trying out natural remedies? There are natural remedies (some better than others) to preserve or slow down hair loss. There is no miracle antidote even after years

of research, however, going ahead with a remedy can be a valuable asset, when it comes to keeping your hairline, and slowing down the hair shedding process. Some remedies are:

  1. Peppermint Oil
  2. Coconut Oil
  3. Olive Oil
  4. Rosemary Oil
  5. Pumpkin Seed Oil
  6. Sunflower Oil
  7. Essential Oils & Fatty Acids
  8. Folic Acid
  9. Biotin (Vitamin B)
  10. Give Up Smoking
  11. Massage the Scalp
  12. Onion Juice

* (from the list above – results can vary from person to person)

Peppermint Oil

To use peppermint oil, usually you have to dilute it with a carrier oil and massage it into the scalp before shampooing. Then wait for 20-30 minutes. Do a patch test beforehand to check for any adverse reactions. Include regularly as part of your hair care routine to see best results.

Peppermint oil, is derived from the peppermint plant and it offers several potential benefits for hair care:

  • Improved Blood Circulation: Menthol can improve blood circulation in the scalp and promotes the nourishment of hair follicles.
  • Stimulates Hair Growth: increases hair follicle activity.
  • Stop Hair Loss in it’s Tracks: Peppermint oil strengthens hair follicles and can reduce the risk of premature hair loss.
  • Soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits: Peppermint Oil has anti-inflammatory properties and gives relief from issues such as itchy scalp, and various scalp problems including dandruff.
  • Enhances Healthy Hair: Scalp oil production should be regular and peppermint oil helps to do that. No more excessive greasiness and you will add extra ‘natural’ shine to your hair.
  • Aromatherapy Benefits: Invigorating aromas, promotes relaxation and mental clarity.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil nourishes the hair follicles and so it is known to be beneficial for hair loss. It also strengthens hair, and moisturises the scalp. Coconut oil is known to reduce protein loss, protect against hair damage, and soothes inflammation.

When you massage coconut oil into the scalp you will benefit from improve blood circulation which will only help to promote hair growth.

Olive Oil

Olive oil moisturises the scalp and the hair, and massaging it, improves blood circulation in the scalp. It is also known to reduce DHT production (Excessive DHT is linked to hair loss). Olive oil also strengthens hair, promotes scalp health, and protects the hair from damage.

Rosemary Oil

Massaging rosemary oil or natural products that contain rosemary extracts into your hair can improve hair growth and the quality of your hair.

Rosemary is known to inhibit DHT production. It’s also regarded as a way to improve blood circulation to the hair follicles, to strengthen hair, to promote scalp health, to reduce dandruff, to stimulate hair follicles, and overall to reduce hair loss.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin seed oil is abother oil that can inhibiting DHT production. It also nourishes hair follicles with essential nutrients, and reduces scalp inflammation.

Other benefits include:

– increased hair density

– maintains the health of the scalp

– improves blood circulation

– protects the hair from antioxidants

Pumpkin seed oil can be applied directly to the scalp, or via oral supplements.

Sunflower Oil

Another useful oil is sunflower oil. Here are somne of the benefits:

– Contains vitamin E

– Moisturises the hair and scalp,

– Reduces hair breakage

– improves blood circulation to the hair follicles

– reduces dandruff

Fatty Acids & Essential Oils

Fatty acids and essential oils provide essential nutrients, strengthens hair, moisturises the scalp and helps to reducing inflammation. You will notice improved blood circulation to the hair follicles and potential hair growth.

Folic Acid

Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate (folate is a B vitamin) and won’t majorly affect hair loss on its own – it has indirect benefits for the whole body including hair & scalp. Folic acid is beneficial to overall well-being & body functions including: regular B vitamin intake. Indirectly supports hair health by contributing to a healthy scalp.

  • Hair Loss Prevention:  Folic acid on its own won’t prevent hair loss.
  • There is little scientific evidence linking low folate levels to hair loss.
  • Supports DNA Synthesis: Folic acid is a crucial supporter for DNA synthesis. DNA synthesis is an essential process when it comes to body (internal and external) cellular growth.
  • Reduces Inflammation: Folic acid can reduce inflammation, and this can be of benefit to hair health.
  • Prevents Anemia: Folic acid helps in the production of red blood cells and ensures more efficient & sufficient supply of oxygen to the hair follicles.

Another B vitamin is biotin. It has several roles in the body and for hair:

  • Food to Energy: Biotin plays a significant involvement in converting food into energy.
  • General Health: Biotin is good for general health and well being.
  • Hairline Restoration: Biotin supplements are available to address various hair loss concerns.
  • Thicker Denser Hair: Scientific claims that biotin is often claimed to thicken hair are not conclusive.

Try to Give Up Smoking!

Giving up smoking harmful cigarettes can prevent or at least slow down the progression of hair loss. You might not know, but cigarette smoke contains toxins and can potentially speed up hair loss & damages hair follicles.

Massage the Scalp Regularly

A regular scalp massage can increase blood circulation to the scalp. This can potentially stimulate hair regrowth and ultimately achieve a healthier and denser hairline.

– Improved blood circulation in the scalp

– Good at fighting infection

– Can reduce DHT hormone

– Soothes inflammation.

If a natural remedy doesn’t bring the results you are looking for (although over the counter help can be combined with natural remedies), it may be worth your time to look into over the counter medication or clinical methods like these:

This was used initially for people with hypertension, but today it is accessible as: a topical serums, a foam and in pill form. It isn’t necessarily a hairline restorer but it can prevent further hair loss.

More effective Minoxidil comes in the 5% strength variant, and a lower dose is usually recommended for women. (Please consult with a specialist if you choose to go down this path).

Similar to finasteride (listed below), dutasteride has already demonstrated a similar level of effectiveness in overcoming hair loss. (Please consult with a specialist if you choose to go down this path).

Low Level Laser Treatments

Low level laser treatment stimulates circulation and promotes hair growth. Effectiveness varies from person to person. (Please consult with a specialist if you choose to go down this path).

Hair Transplant Surgery

Having a hair transplant is usually the final option after you have tried everything else. When it works it is very effective, but when it fails you have the added expense and the disruption of having to start a brand new procedure.

Going through a hair transplant can definitely work and success depends on various factors. There are 2 types: FUT and FUE, and a hair transplant involves a surgical procedure where the results aren’t seen straight away and aftercare is lengthy.

You might approve of someone moving your own hair follicles from one place on your head to another where there is hair loss.

As mentioned before, the outcome is not guaranteed but the final results can be very effective. (Please consult with a specialist if you choose to go down this path).

Finasteride increases levels of testosterone. It is suitable for use by both men and women, and women will usually experience more noticeable side effects.

Finasteride can be effective and results will depend on each person. (Please consult with a specialist if you choose to go down this path).

We already highlighted some ways forward, but how about cosmetic treatments? Have you considered a light therapy hair growth helmet?

Or a  toupee made from natural hair, or scalp sprays that add colour temporarily to hide thinning / balding areas? Effectiveness is reliant on a lot of factors including amount of hair loss and how each person responds to each method.

If you are thinking about non-surgical hairline restoration, a top choice is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP). It’s already established and popular in London UK & globally, and it’s guaranteed to work. The appearance of a restored, natural and denser hairline can be achieved.

SMP is non-invasive and an option available for men and women – it’s popular with celebrities too! A tattoo hairline is very effective and it’s long lasting, and it’s a more cost effective solution to having a hair transplant and other surgical options.

Hair loss is common as we age – it’s something we all have to accept whether we want it to happen or not – it will happen depending on certain factors. However, as you have read already, there are plenty of interventions to choose from and there’s no miraculous cure yet for baldness.

Ultimately, your hair doesn’t define you completely as a person, because there is a lot more to a person than hair and a hair style. However, we understand, that your hair relates to your own personal style, your personal appearance, your personal image, and how you look & how you are perceived in public. Lack of hair also affects confidence & self esteem.

Every year, new hair loss product are created to provide hope, promising to be an improvement on what has gone before. Year on year, more men and women look for solutions.

Hair loss can sometimes illustrate an underlying health condition. It’s always best to seek the help and detailed assessments of a health professional if you experience any scalp or hair symptoms that seem out of the ordinary.

How can you restore your hairline the non-surgical way? (Read on & scroll down to discover more).

PRP is used for a range of medical conditions for regeneration, from hair loss to joint pain. This treatment is among the most effective types of hair restoration.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is a treatment where your platelets to restore your hair. Platelets are taken from a blood sample and the platelets are injected into the required area of the scalp. This hair loss procedure uses growth factors and proteins to start hair growth.

Are you an ideal candidate for PRP?

PRP therapy is an option it’s not a necessity – there are a number of options out there, but a specialist might tell you it’s the best option.

PRP works best when you are at the early stage of hair loss, and where your hair is thinning (smaller areas & the follicles are still active). Blood disorders, dermatological diseases and chronic skin infections can adversely affect the outcome.

What Does PRP Cost?

The costs in London and the UK vary from clinic to clinic but expect to pay at least hundreds of pounds per treatment.

One use for Low-Level Laser Therapy (already mentioned above), is to stimulate cell growth during hair loss.

What is Low Level Laser Treatment?

It’s used by men and women, to restore hair by applying light of low intensity, where the growth of epidermal stem cells in the hair follicle bulge is stimulated. It is safe, non surgical and non invasive.

What's the Cost?

The cost depends on how long the treatment is for. Expect to pay hundreds of pounds minimum.

Will it Work for Me?

It is known to work for different types of hair loss, including hair loss which is: postpartum, through illness, or post menopausal. If you’re completely bald, the treatment won’t work as well because Low Level Laser Treatment won’t work on inactive (dead) hair follicles.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) already mentioned earlier, is where realistic 3D micro dots are applied to the scalp to create a long lasting realistic appearance to mimic hair follicles.

SMP is guaranteed to work with no downtime and no surgery.

What is the Hairline Restoration Cost?

Prices vary from SMP technician to SMP technician, and more can depend on experience, expertise and location. Prices of scalp micropigmentation at Simon Symeou SMP range from £300 to £3000, and degree of hair loss is also a factor.

There are of course hair loss shampoos and serums, and other forms of topical hair replacement products include:

  • Topical anthralin (for alopecia areata).
  • Topical tretinoin (Retin-A, used  with minoxidil for male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness). Topical minoxidil (for pattern baldness and alopecia areata).

After a few months, you may usually see visible results. (Speak with a medical specialist if you decide to start with topical foams and liquids).

Propecia (Finasteride) can help and for hereditary hair loss, there are tablets that block DHT.

Hair loss prevention and regrowth starts with following a healthy diet and following a regular healthy eating pattern and not missing any meals. However even too much or too little of certain foods / nutrients, not drinking enough water, can still cause hair to fall out.

These non surgical hair loss solutions mentioned here, are not equally effective and some may not give you the results that you are looking for.

Quite simply, there are 2 well known surgical procedures used for hairline restoration and full head restoration. 1. follicular unit extraction (FUE) & 2. follicular unit transplantation (FUT).

Is there a difference?

FUT is faster and more efficient.

There is Robotic FUE & there is Manual FUE.

Here are 4 such procedures:

  1. Tissue Expansion – A tissue expander is placed underneath an area of the scalp containing hair (right next to the area that’s bald). Then remarkably, after just a couple of weeks, the skin to grows new skin cells. Following this, surgery is carried out where the expanded skin is put in place over the bald spot.
  1. Flap Surgery – This is used to cover large areas on the scalp that are balding. How is this done? A section of the bald area is taken away, and a flap of skin containing hair is put on the bald scalp. No original blood supply is maintained during the whole procedure.
  1. A Hair Transplant – Imagine grafts of hair being removed from the sides & back of your scalp (causes scalp scarring), and placed into designated areas where hair is balding or thinning.
  1. Scalp reduction – Scalp reduction will cover up areas of baldness at the back and top of the head. So what happens is: ‘bald scalp with scalp containing hair’ is removed and then pulled together to fill in the baldness.

Here are 4 different SMP Hairlines:

Jagged Hairline

If you are looking for a softer style, the jagged hairline will look great. Custom pigment is randomly applied to the scalp.

Feathered Hairline

Pigments of different densities are applied the scalp to give a seamless, natural & realistic final result.

Broken Hairline

A broken hairline isn’t jagged, it isn’t defined it is between those. A stronger shape is created, and there are softer edges.

Defined Hairline

With a defined hairline, you can look forward to restoring any bald areas & created for you is the illusion of hair covering all of the head. Adding to this a stronger hairline overall, a defined hairline is sought after by Asian and African SMP clients.

There are those that will want to age gracefully, and those who will seek some kind of hair loss intervention – after all life is full of choices and you make your own when it comes to your hair.

Prevention is far better than trying to find a cure, and hindsight can be a wonderful way to learn going forward. Following a hair care routine and a good diet with healthy eating habits can make a difference.

If you have pattern baldness, you might not feel as motivated or to do much due to the inevitability, and losing hair might feel beyond your control.

Speaking early on with a hair and scalp specialist, when you first spot the signs of hair loss may open up ways for you to stop hair loss in it’s tracks. A lot of people don’t do this, and so hair loss can get worse over time.

Yes some treatments are more expensive than others, however there are also cost effective solutions you can try. Scalp Micropigmentation is certainly an option to explore if you would like to restore a receding hairline. Temporary tricopigmentation or longer lasting scalp micropigmentation?
