All SMP treatments are performed by Simon Symeou owner & lead SMP technician. at the London SMP studio.

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical procedure. This involves depositing tiny pigmented dots onto the scalp. Those dots replicate the visual appearance of natural hair follicles on the scalp. SMP is an effective procedure used to treat baldness, and different types of hair loss. The result is the look of a fuller head of hair.

Create the illusion of having real hair follicles. A specialised SMP microneedle is used to inject pigments into the epidermal layer of the scalp. The pigment used is carefully matched to the hair colour and skin tone of the client to cover thinning hair and baldness.  Each treatment is customised for each client and a natural hairline and look is achieved.

After an SMP procedure, touch ups will be required every few years for maintenance because pigments can fade due to factors such as sun exposure and skin exfoliates naturally over time.

Generally, if you are bothered by patchy areas of thinning hair, hair loss, a receding hairline, baldness or scalp scarring you will likely benefit from having scalp micropigmentation. SMP is suitable for both men and women.

The majority of SMP clients report only minimal discomfort during the procedure, and some don’t feel a thing! Some areas of the scalp can be more sensitive, and any discomfort is not usually an issue.

SMP treatment involves attending a few sessions (up to 5 on average) to achieve the desired look. SMP session time can vary based on the the individual and the extent of the treatment. On average, a session can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours.

Downtime and inconvenience after treatment is minimal after a session. Slight redness and tenderness may be experienced in the treated areas for just a few days. Avoid exposing the scalp to excessive sunlight and water during healing.

SMP is non-surgical and isn’t an invasive procedure. In general SMP is considered to be very safe, and you should make sure to choose a qualified, experienced SMP technician so as to minimise any potential risks of infection and allergic reactions to pigment. Ideally, choose an experienced and reputable technician for your SMP.

The cost of Scalp micropigmentation varies a lot depending on factors such as: 1) the extent of the treatment, 2) the location of the clinic, 3) the experience of the practitioner. Arrange a consultation with an SMP technician so you can do your due diligence.

I will sum up Simon in a few words, 'a truly phenomenal artist'. It took me over a year to research the right company to do my SMP. Over that time, I kept coming back to Simon - I am so pleased I took the time to find the right person. Money, it is very simple, if you want quality, you have to pay for it. Some of the horrific SMP procedures I have seen, made me spend time to find the right person. If I could give Simon 10 STARS, I would! If anyone would like to talk to me, I have told Simon, I am happy for him to pass on my contact number. Thank you so much Simon, for changing my life for the better!

Take your time and do your research and due diligence. Ideally look for an experienced SMP professional who has a solid reputation in carrying out SMP procedures. Read online reviews, look at before-and-after pictures, and speak about your goals with SMP providers, and make sure you are at ease and you don’t feel pressured in any way.

This really does vary among clients. The pigments used for SMP can last anywhere from 2 to 5 years before requiring SMP touch-up sessions.

The answer is yes. Yes, SMP can be used in conjunction with a hair transplant to camouflage scarring. SMP can also be used with other hair loss medications. Doing this can enhance the overall appearance of the hair.

SMP procedures and pigments can be adapted to different skin tones and different hair colours. A qualified and skilled SMP technician will customise the correct pigment to match what is required.

Ideally a candidate should generally be over the age of 18 and should have stable hair loss patterns.

SMP can be used to effectively camouflage any scalp scarring which may have occurred from hair transplant surgery. SMP is also effective on scarring after accidents and from other scalp conditions.

A SMP technician will usually give you guidelines to follow. Such as: avoid blood-thinning medication, avoid alcohol, and avoid excessive sun exposure.

SMP FAQ Continued

More Frequently asked questions for you and we hope this helps!

Avoid washing the scalp for the first few days afterwards. This will allow the pigments to settle. After that, you can go ahead with gentle washing.

Straight after the procedure, the scalp might appear slightly darker and this is due to the presence of the pigments. This scalp usually lightens as the skin heals.

Yes absolutely. Touch-up sessions are required to maintain the overall appearance and look of the SMP. The pigments are refreshed to ensure a consistent look remains.

Yes you can and you won’t affect the appearance by doing so. Note that the pigments are embedded beneath the skin’s surface so shaving will be fine.

Allergic reactions are very rare. However it is potentially possible to experience a reaction to the pigment used. Existing allergies should be discussed with your SMP technician.

Yes indeed, SMP is guaranteed to work for men and women. Enjoy the illusion of having more hair whether you’re bald or losing your hair.

SMP can be lasered off (Simon Symeou SMP does not provide laser removal). To avoid having to go through SMP removal, make sure you communicate everything clearly with your SMP technician beforehand so expectations are agreed and realistic.

It’s highly recommended to avoid direct sunlight on the scalp for at least 1 week after having SMP. Then, sunscreen can be used to treat and protect the scalp from the sun’s UV rays.

Strenuous physical activity should be avoided for a few days post procedure. This will ensure the scalp is given the opportunity to heal properly.

Candidates for SMP who have certain medical conditions might not be suitable for treatment. This should be discussed with your SMP technician before going ahead with treatment.

Avoid using swimming pools and saunas, and avoid sweating heavily for a week or so after treatment. This is recommended to prevent complications.

After the initial healing period, look to use gentle hair products that contain no alcohol. You can consult with your SMP technician for best recommendations.

Time between touch-up sessions can vary and there should be enough time to allow for best healing.

Your SMP technician will lead the way and consult with you at every stage to make sure you are happy and in agreement. A tailor made solution to complement you is always the aim. Your input and preferences should be considered during before, during and after your SMP sesssions.
